Wanaka Autumn Art School day 3 – 2024

Choices Expanding!

Welcome to the “as it’s happening” for Wednesday log:

Please note: the annual Wanaka Autumn Art School is an ongoing project of the Upper Clutha Community Arts Council

The art of successful angling
Mike Weddell

In this course which usually (but not necessarily) follows on from flying tying, the theory is put into practice.

Participants cover a selection of tackle, trout behaviour, trout food, selection of flies and how to fish for them in the various waters of New Zealand.

As well as a few lessons at the college, most of the time is spent putting theory into practice in some of the finest trout fishing areas in the country.

The Art of Photography
Kaye Davies

“To me, photography is an art of observation. It’s about finding something interesting in an ordinary place … I’ve found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” – Elliot Erwitt

“

Photography, as we all know, is not real at all. It is an illusion of reality with which we create our own private world.”  – Arnold Newman

A morning session on the history and evolution of art with an emphasis on painting and the photographic process

Any form of creative practice allows us to immerse ourselves in the process of making things or capturing things. In its early years, photography was lauded primarily for its unique ability to accurately document and record things. However, it took many years and much debate within the art world, for it to be recognised in any way as an art form.

Tutor Kaye built up a collage image for the students.

The school’s favoured lunch area – shade, fresh air and space under a generous sky
